Shaded seats at Wrigley Field: what to expect
Which side is shaded at a day game?
Most of the shade at a Wrigley Field day game comes from the decks and the roof overhead. The Terrace, the 200s tucked under the upper deck, stays shaded through a day game, and the 400s at the back of the upper deck are mostly shaded too. The bleachers have nothing above them and usually stay sunny through a day game. At a 1:10 start the sun is high behind home plate, leaning toward the first-base side. The Club Box seats, sections 3 through 32, tend to stay mostly sunny until about 3 PM, and until about 4 PM in June. In April and September the first-base half of the Field Box (the 100s) starts in shade, and nearly all of the 100s outside the right-field corner are shaded by about 2:40. That corner, sections 129 through 134, tends to be sunny late in the day.
Where does the sun set at a night game?
At a 6:40 or 7:10 start the sun is already low off the third-base side, and the first-base line and right field face it. The Club Box, the Field Box, and nearly all of the Terrace are in shade by first pitch. What light is left falls on the bleachers and the right-field end of the upper deck, and in June it is off those seats by about 8:15 PM. In September a 7:10 start begins after sunset.
