What this guide is

Globe Life Field is the Texas Rangers’ retractable-roof home at 734 Stadium Drive in Arlington, roughly halfway between Dallas and Fort Worth. It opened in 2020, designed by Dallas-based HKS and built in under 30 months, and it shares the Entertainment District with AT&T Stadium and the Texas Live! complex at its North Plaza.

The building exists because of the weather. DFW summers run from the high 90s past 100, and after decades of open-air baseball the club built a park that seals shut: a 5.5-acre retractable roof, air conditioning that holds the seating bowl in the mid-70s, and a Shaw synthetic-turf field that thrives without direct sun.

This guide works for the DFW fan who already knows the drive and wants the sharper details: which sections earn their price, what the 2026 concession lineup is worth ordering, where the clubs actually sit. It also works for the traveling fan building a trip around a Rangers game. For that reader, the things to get right up front are mobile-only entry, the strict no-backpack bag rule, and the fact that no train or city bus comes anywhere near the gates.

Globe Life Field in 90 seconds

The roof flips summer baseball. The 5.5-acre single-panel retractable roof, the largest of its kind in the world, opens or closes in about 12 minutes, and with it shut the air conditioning holds the building in the mid-70s while the parking lot cooks. Day-of roof status posts about 90 minutes before first pitch. In practice it stays closed for most of the summer and opens for shoulder-season evenings, which makes a July afternoon game here one of the most comfortable tickets in baseball.

There is no train or bus to the gates. Arlington has no rail line and no city bus system, so the trip is a car trip in one form or another. Rideshare leads, with the official drop-off at Chapmans Cutoff on the park’s east side. The city also runs Arlington On-Demand, a subsidized shared van booked through the Via app for a few dollars a ride, and official lots run $25 to $50 on game day. Guests at participating district hotels ride a free trolley. Most fans just drive, and the park is set up for it.

The district is the destination. Texas Live!, a 200,000-square-foot dining and entertainment complex, sits at the park’s North Plaza, and AT&T Stadium, the Cowboys’ building, is across the parking lots. On a game day the district is a real scene: bars, BBQ, a 100-foot outdoor screen. Beyond its footprint there is no organic walkable neighborhood, and everything else in Arlington needs a car.

The 2023 title reset the demand. The Rangers won the 2023 World Series in the franchise’s 63rd season, the first championship in club history, and the crowds have shown up since. Weekend dates and marquee series go first. Weeknights against non-marquee opponents are where tickets stay gettable.

If it’s your first visit, do these four things

The four-line version of the first-timer guide.

Set up the MLB Ballpark app before you leave. Entry is mobile-only: no print-at-home tickets, no screenshots at the gate. The park is also fully cashless, with reverse ATMs at Main Concourse sections 113, 123, and 136 and Upper Concourse 227 if you arrive carrying bills.

Pack for the bag rule. Soft-sided bags up to 16 by 8 by 16 inches, two per person, and no backpacks of any kind, clear ones included (diaper and medical bags are the exceptions, and a single-compartment drawstring is fine). Outside food is allowed in a sealed clear quart-size bag, one per ticket, plus one sealed water bottle up to a liter.

Drive or ride-share, and use the closest gate. There is no transit option, so plan the car leg: rideshare drops at Chapmans Cutoff on the east side, and official lots open 2 hours before day games and 2.5 before night games. Six entries open together, 1.5 hours before afternoon games and 2 hours before night games, so just walk to whichever is nearest.

Walk the outfield numbers, then hit Texas Live!. Every outfield distance honors a retired number or a franchise year: 329 for Beltre’s 29, 407 for Pudge’s 7, 410 for Young’s 10, 326 for Oates’ 26, plus a 334 marker for Ryan’s 34. Spot them from the concourse, then cross to the North Plaza, where Texas Live! is the arrive-early headquarters.
